Responding to Evil

The shooting outside In-and-Out Burger on August 1st sent shock waves through our MVLA board members, thorough the Magic Valley, our entire state, and the nation for that matter.

Like 9/11, August 1, 2026, will be solemnly remembered in the Magic Valley for years to come. You are likely to recall where you were when you learned the news. And like 9/11, you may be asking yourself how should we respond?

With fear? Rage?

We at MVLA ask that you continue to support all those directly affected by this senseless violence with your daily prayers: the families, In-and-Out Burger employees, medical professionals, mental health professionals, and law enforcement.

And pray that despite the shockwave of terror that the shooter had intended to demoralize and cower in fear, that our community pulls together and heals from this. In a first show of support, hundreds gathered for a candlelight vigil on Tuesday, August at Twin Falls City Park for prayer and honoring those affected.

This tragedy serves as a reminder that dealing with the effects of evil means countering evil with the most good, darkness with light of prayer and love of neighbor, like continuing to hold each other up in prayer, being peaceably engaged citizens, and refusing to live in demoralizing fear.
