I understand the need to cut costs and balance budgets completely. Bit unfortunately Obama turned the private medical insurance options upside down. I am 60 and have had a mess of medical issues since ending up in the ICU in 2020 with super covid pneumonia. I simply cannot afford private insurance that will actually cover my medical needs and or prescriptions. The deductibles and monthly premiums are crazy high. So without the medicaid I have no medical. I am hoping there is some kind of solution to this problem without loosing coverage as a 60 yr old woman is very scary and concerning. In 2019 the job my husband had provided insurance that had reasonable deductibles and coverage and rates for coverage. Bit when the lumber mill closed we lost all that. Now when I really rely on medical coverage because of age and medical needs it cost way more than we can afford. I hope there will be some serious thought to these issues some may have and not just lump everyone in together as wasteful spending. I hate that we are in this situation but here we are. There has got to be some way to fix the private insurance situation so people can afford to pay for a policy that actually covers what they need and spend less than 700 to 800 a month just for the plan not including deductible and share of cost.
Great job on passing all these bills.I appreciate all the hard work ,long hours and grit to get so much done.
After reviewing the list of bills above, I believe the Idaho legislature has done some good work, however, I completely disagree with the passage of HJR004. With the passage of this bill, Idaho Republicans, who claim to “say” they believe in freedom and liberty, sound more like the authoritarian Democrats who look to try to run people’s lives. Given that restrictions on marijuana at the federal level have been eased, the issue of marijuana legalization should be solely up to THE PEOPLE of Idaho through the regular initiative process.
Marijuana restrictions at the federal level were initially eased and the substance was reclassified by the Biden administration and the current Trump administration has indicated that they will plan to hold up this policy change as well. I do believe however, that much stronger drugs such as heroin, cocaine, fentanyl, etc. should continue to be directly regulated by the legislature. Marijuana does not belong in the same “basket” as these other more stronger and debilitating drugs.
For the Idaho legislature to cut out the people’s voice on this specific issue with the passage of HJR004 is hypocritical at best, dictatorial at worst. I thought that Idaho Republicans were better than this.
